Tractor-Trailer Fire Closes Westbound Turnpike Lanes

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – A blazing truck fire has closed westbound lanes of the Turnpike near the city.

It happened Friday afternoon, when a tractor-trailer caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames near mile marker 57 at the Pittsburgh/Monroeville exit.

All westbound traffic was halted for a time, though one lane was open by 2:30 p.m., though turnpike officials were still reporting heavy delays.

Motorists traveling eastbound on the Parkway East may encounter congestion and stopped traffic near the Turnpike off-ramp.

No word on any injuries or how the fire started.

Stay with KDKA for more information.
