Toddler Taken To Hospital With Gunshot Wound, Police Investigating

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Police are investigating after a toddler was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

According to police, they were called to Allegheny General Hospital for a report of a juvenile male with a gunshot wound who had arrived at the emergency department by private vehicle. The toddler was then taken to UPMC Children's Hospital in critical condition but has been upgraded to stable.

Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating to learn where and how the toddler was shot.

On Monday night, police served a search warrant on Glasgow Street in Sheraden in connection with the shooting.

"The police went into the house. They were in there for an hour," said neighbor Von Voshall.

Police sources tell KDKA they believe the boy accidentally shot himself in the head with the gun of a family member. Sources say the wound appears to have grazed the boy's head, and he is expected to recover.

Neighbors in Allentown near East Warrington Avenue and Beltzhoover Avenue said officers were in the area just after the time the toddler went to the hospital.

Other neighbors on Zephyr Avenue in Sheraden said police were searching for someone in their area just after 4 p.m. Police used their K-9s in the search.

KDKA is working to see how these two scenes are connected to their investigation.
