3 Homes Go Up In Flames In Homewood

HOMEWOOD (KDKA)- Firefighters had their hands full with a big fire early Tuesday morning in Homewood.

Crews were called to the 7300-block of Idlewild Street just before 4 a.m. When they arrived, one house was fully engulfed in flames.

"It started at about 3:45 a.m. and it quickly went to a three-alarm," Pittsburgh Police Spokesperson Sonya Toler said.

The fire quickly spread to two neighboring row houses.

One woman was initially unaccounted for, but she was not home at the time of the fire.

The people in the other homes that caught on fire got out safely.

"Everyone was evacuated on their own safely from the other two structures. So, that's part of the good news to this," Toler said.

The house where the fire started was destroyed. The one neighboring home had heavy fire and water damage. The other neighboring home had damage to the attic.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
