Teenage Suspect In Busway Shooting Seeks To Withdraw Guilty Plea
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A teenager sentenced to 40 years to life in a slaying at a Pittsburgh busway stop is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea.
Seventeen-year-old Jordan Bey pleaded guilty last fall in Allegheny County to first-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy and a firearms count.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that defense attorney Lisa Phillips told a judge Tuesday morning that her client wished to withdraw the plea.
Phillips said he would likely argue that she had provided ineffective counsel and asked to be replaced by another attorney.
Bey was charged in the October 2013 shooting death of 21-year-old Omar Islam of Troy Hill during a robbery at the busway of the Homewood Avenue station.
His plea motion prompted prosecutors to seek a postponement of plea hearings involving two other defendants.
