Man Shot During East Hills Home Invasion

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One person was shot Monday during a home invasion in the East Hills.

Emergency dispatchers confirm it happened around 1 p.m. in the 2000 block of Parkhill Drive, at the Maple Ridge apartments.

"At first it sounded like somebody fell down the steps. It was like when somebody slams a book. That's what it sounded like at first," said witness Asula Collins.

Because he heard arguing earlier, Collins went to investigate and saw his niece's fiancé.

"When I went up the steps he said, 'They shot me,'" he said.

Reports indicate two males broke into the residence, shot a 35-year-old man and then fled.

"The actors fled, they had parked a vehicle behind the complex, they fled in a dark colored SUV," said Assistant Public Information Officer Emily Shaffer.

The victim is being treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder at UPMC Presbyterian and is expected to be okay.

The Group Violence Intervention Unit is investigating.
