Man Barricaded Inside Vehicle In Custody After Perry South SWAT Situation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man is in custody after a SWAT situation that lasted more than an hour in Pittsburgh's Perry South neighborhood.

Pittsburgh Police and SWAT responded to a man that has barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the 2200 block of Perrysville Avenue Wednesday.

Police say patrol officers were called to Wilson Avenue for a report of a man with a gun in the car.

Things turned into a low-speed chase from there -- under 25 mph -- before they blocked in the car. Stop sticks were also used to deflate the tires.

Pittsburgh Police, SWAT and Allegheny County Sheriffs were all on scene attempting to get the man to leave the vehicle.

"Negotiators kept in constant communication with the male inside the vehicle and after about an hour and a half of talks, gas was deployed into the vehicle. The male exited the vehicle where he was tased and a K-9 was used and he was taken into custody," said Maurice Matthews with Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Pittsburgh Public Safety had asked people to avoid the area.

Police haven't released his name or the charges he'll be facing.
