Boy, 15, Arrested For Firing Shot At 2 Stowe Twp. Police Officers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A 15-year-old is facing a long list of charges for allegedly firing a gunshot at two police officers in Stowe Township.

It happened in the 900-block of Island Avenue, near the McKees Rocks border around 8:15 p.m Monday.

Officers had pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop at that location.

Police say Tomichael Sherrell, who was not involved in the traffic stop, fired at the officers and took off.

"When the shot was discharged from the weapon, whenever the slug went from the gun, it may have hit in the area where the officers were standing and some debris did fly up and hit the officers," Stowe Township Police Chief Matthew Preininger said.

The officers were not injured during the incident.

A witness was able to help identify the teenager. His mother helped find him and got him to turn himself into the police before midnight Monday.

Sherrell is in the Allegheny County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, assaulting a law enforcement officer, carrying a firearm without a license and recklessly endangering another person.

He was charged as an adult.
