Suspect In Custody After Theft At Strip District Business

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police arrested a man accused of walking into a business in the Strip District Friday afternoon and stealing from the employees.

The theft happened at the Collage Jewelry and Gifts store on Penn Avenue.

According to officials, the suspect is accused of taking the employees' personal belongings, including items from purses, and then ran off.

Authorities have identified him as Harry Wright. He reportedly told police he is homeless.

The owner says the incident is pretty unusual and that police responded quickly.

"Within seconds; they were fabulous, fabulous," said Cindy Baker, the store's owner. "And in the Strip, you know, this is a safe place, so we don't like for these things to happen and neither do the police, and that's why they watch down here so carefully."

Police took a suspect into custody a short time later.
