Suspect In 2012 Monview Heights Double Fatal Shooting Found Guilty

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The man accused in a fatal double shooting at the Monview Heights housing complex in 2012 has been found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder.

Richard Krista is charged in the shooting deaths of Cody Ruder and Joseph Sherrill at the West Mifflin housing complex in May of 2012.

A jury handed down the verdict this afternoon after seven hours of deliberations over two days.

This was the third trial for Krista. Both previously ended in mistrials.

During the first trial late in 2013, jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. Then, back in January of this year, the judge declared a mistrial when that jury also could not break a deadlock.

Krista faces two mandatory life sentences.

His sentencing date has not yet been set.
