Study: Majority Of Parents Fear Schools, Buses, Making Their Kids Sick
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It's back to school time and a new survey shows parents are concerned about their children's school cleanliness.
The survey by OpenWorks found that the majority of parents say school buses, cafeterias, and bathrooms at their child's school are "unclean" or "unsanitary."
More than 300 working parents were surveyed.
Half of working parents pack lunch for their kids because they think the cafeteria is "unclean" or unsanitary."
1 in 3 of the parents won't let their kids ride the school bus because they think it's not clean.
Even worse: nearly a half of those surveyed said they feel pressure to send their sick kids to school, because they can't miss work.
"The survey shows parents believe schools aren't making the grade when it comes to keeping facilities clean, creating unhealthy environments for students," David Bosley, OpenWorks Executive Vice President says.
More than 3 in 5 parents surveyed worry their kids are being exposed to germs at school.
