Local Students Get $500,000 In Scholarships Thanks To Marine Corps Foundation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Nearly 100 local students were awarded college scholarships Thursday night.

The Marine Corps Scholarship Fund held its annual Steel City Awards dinner and handed out awards to 79 students from the Pittsburgh area.

The night was meant to celebrate and honor the sacrifices made by marines and their families.

"The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation honors marines by educating their children and we've been doing so for 54 years. This year alone, we've awarded 2,300 scholarships across the nation worth more than $7 million," said Margaret Davis with the Marine Corp Scholarship Fund.

Altogether, the scholarships awarded were worth $500,000.
