Steelers Waive 9 Ahead Of Roster Cut Deadline

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers cut nine players Sunday ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

It was announced Sunday that injured quarterback Dustin Vaughan has been waived, along with eight other players: Jordan Zumwalt, Mike Reilly, Issac Blakeney, Levi Norwood, Michael Cooper, Giorgio Newberry, Khaynin Mosley-Smith, and Julian Whigham.

The Steelers also placed offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins on the reserve/injured list.

After these cuts, the Steelers' roster is now at 79 players. The roster must be reduced to 75 players before the NFL's deadline Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Steelers beat the New Orleans Saints 27-14 in Friday night's preseason game. They're scheduled to take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 1.
