Steelers Release Cornerback Cortez Allen

PITTSBURGH (Sports Xchange/KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers released cornerback Cortez Allen on Friday.

Allen, 27, was due to receive $4.4 million in salary this season in the third year of a four-year extension worth more than $24 million.

Allen signed the deal prior to the 2014 season opener and quickly fell out of factor. He was benched in 2014 due to poor play and a knee cartilage injury limited him to one game last season.

Allen was a fourth-round pick in 2011 and played 56 games (18 starts) for the Steelers. He intercepted six passes and totaled 150 tackles.

The Steelers have done a lot of pre-draft research on the defensive back position.
