Steelers Sign Chris Boswell As New Kicker

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Steelers have found a new kicker.

The team said Saturday that it had signed free agent Chris Boswell. Boswell previously was with the New York Giants for training camp this season and spent time with the Houston Texans' practice squad.

Josh Scobee has also been released.

News rapidly spread that the Steelers would likely be looking for a new kicker after the team's loss to the Ravens Thursday.

Scobee, the team's third kicker this year, missed two critical field goals late in the fourth quarter. The first miss came from 49 yards out with 2:24 to play. He would miss again from 41 yards with about a minute left.

"I let the team down and [it's] not something I ever want to remember doing. Just a bad feeling. It was a hard fought game on both sides and I wish I would have been able to come through, but it just wasn't my night," Scobee said.

It marked the second time this season that Scobee has whiffed on two field goals in the same game. Both times, the Steelers have gone on to lose the game.
