State Police Investigate Possible Murder-Suicide In Marianna

MARIANNA, Pa. (KDKA) - State Police and the Washington County Coroner's Office are investigating after a man and woman were found dead in a home in the small borough of Marianna on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say it is a possible case of murder-suicide.

KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Reports:

The discovery was made around 1 p.m. in a double wide mobile home on Patterson Run Road.

"We found two people dead, both of a gunshot wound. We're not sure quite what the circumstances are at this time. We are investigating those circumstances at this point in time," said Trooper Matthew Jardine, of Pennsylvania State Police.

Both were found in the bedroom.

The body of 47-year-old Julie Bottles was found on the bed, the victim of a gunshot wound.

Bottles was originally from Florida, but had been living in Marianna recently with a man who is described as her live-in companion, 49-year old Curtis Michael.

His body was found on the bedroom floor nearby.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco says it appears Bottles was shot first, and then Michael turned the gun on himself. The murder weapon was found nearby.

KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:

Warco says the Amish owners of the property went to the remote location Tuesday to talk business with Michael, and when they couldn't get inside, one crawled through a back window.

He saw the woman's body and called 911.

The area where the couple was found is heavily forested, and it's not unusual for next-door neighbors to live a mile or more apart.

Investigators spent several hours processing the crime scene, which is at the end of a gated driveway on private property.

State police continue to investigate. Autopsies will be performed by the Washington County Coroner's Office.
