19-year-old woman accused of shooting, killing man in Butler County

VENANGO TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- A man is dead after police say a woman shot him in Butler County.

State police say it was just after 3 p.m. Monday when 19-year-old Jessica Callahan and a man identified as Tyler Whitlatch began arguing inside a home on Kohlmeyer Road in Venango Township.

According to Callahan, Whitlatch then pushed her into a dresser and at one point grabbed her by the neck. Callahan told investigators she broke free from Whitlatch's grip and ran to the home's living room and grabbed a shotgun.

According to what Callahan told police, she allegedly exited the home still holding a shotgun with Whitlatch behind her pursuing her. When she got to the road in front of her home, she turned around and fired the shotgun, which she told police was a warning shot but then she fired again, striking Whitlatch in the abdomen.

Callahan says she loaded Whitlatch into her car and drove from the scene, intending to take him to the hospital but soon realized she needed to stop and call 911 for help. She pulled over at the North Washinton Rodeo in nearby Washington Township. Paramedics declared Whitlatch dead at the scene, with troopers taking Callahan into custody.

Jessica Callahan is in the Butler County Jail facing multiple counts including criminal homicide, held without bond.
