State Police: Guard Suffered "Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound," Gave Police False Report

GROVE CITY (KDKA) -- State Police in Mercer County are investigating after they say a hospital security guard lied about how he suffered a gunshot wound.

It happened at the Grove City Medical Center in Pine Township around 10:45 p.m. Friday.

According to police, the 24-year-old security guard reported to investigators that he was shot while responding to a reported altercation between four men on hospital grounds.

The guard then went back to the hospital's emergency room where he was treated, and then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Police say the guard told them the men fled the scene after the shooting.

However, police say through their investigation, they "determined that the security guard provided false information about the altercation and it was actually a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

State Police continue to investigate.
