State Champion Coach Turns Self In On Child Porn Charges

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) - A state championship-winning high school basketball coach and Beaver County probation officer has been charged by police with possession of child pornography.

Fifty-four-year-old Nicholas Lackovich turned himself in on Thursday and was charged with two felony counts of sexual abuse of children by knowingly possessing child pornography.

Authorities say federal agents found five images on the Aliquippa High School coach's computer after state police executed search warrants in connection with an investigation into alleged dogfighting.

Lackovich has been suspended from his job as an adult probation officer since August 2015 - when the dogfighting investigation first launched.

An attorney representing Lackovich says his client will submit his retirement papers and plans to resign as coach.

Lackovich led Aliquippa to the PIAA Class AA state championship during the 2015-2016 season.
