Fire Damages Kennedy Twp. House

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- Crews were called to the scene of a fire early Thursday morning in Kennedy Township.

When they arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the basement of the home on McCoy Road.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames in the attached garage. But the fire spread through some of the walls up into the house.

It appears a refrigerator in the garage caught fire, but the cause is under investigation by the fire marshal.

Kennedy Twp. Fire Chief Christopher Gutt says two people who live in the home escaped safely. Also, 3 dogs escaped, 1 cat is still missing.

The Red Cross has been notified to help out.

The fire damage was contained mainly to the garage and the back corner of the home.

Chief Gutt says firefighters had no issue battling the fire.
