Slain Store Owner's Family Takes Stand Against Violence

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Escorted by Pittsburgh Police officers, a group of more than 100 people marched through the streets of Pittsburgh's Sheraden neighborhood Saturday night.

It was a vigil in remembrance of a shop owner gunned down last weekend.

Darryl Terry was shot multiple times outside Allendale Market.

His children and grandchildren were among the crowd who walked from the store to Trinity A.M.E. Church.

"It's beautiful. I'm so happy. It shows how much people care about my father, how important he was," Taniqua Terry told KDKA's Kym Gable. "It makes me proud to be named Terry, and I'm going to keep the name going."

Minister Earl Baldwin took the service to a dramatic and startling level when he pulled out a toy gun, firing a blank shot into the air

"This is becoming all too common in our neighborhoods," yelled Baldwin. "What happens when this is real? Who's next?"

Baldwin then called on the men in attendance to stand up and take a leadership role together. He wants to create an organized movement to stop the violence.

Meanwhile, Terry's family begged the killer to come forward.

"You went in that store; you robbed my dad, so take your behind to the detectives and tell them why," Shaniqua Terry said. "I'm begging you. Please!"
