Suspect Sought After Shots Fired At Constable In Hill District

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) – Police are looking for the man who opened fire on a constable in the Hill District early Tuesday morning.

It all started with a domestic dispute inside Shirl the Pearl's bar on Wylie Avenue.

Police say security guards and constables were hired to protect strippers in the back room of the bar, when they heard a loud argument between a man and a woman in the bathroom.

Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler says they went in and asked the two to leave. However, the man became even more combative.

"One of the security guards felt compelled to cuff him and escort him out," Toler said.

Once outside, he was released. He and the woman got into a 2005 or 2006 blue Volkswagen or Nissan with a number of hats in the back window.

The man drove a few feet.

"The car stopped, the male got out, yelled threats, pulled out a gun and started shooting," Toler said.

One of those bullets went through Rhonda McCray's house.

"A bullet went through our bedroom wall and my husband was sleeping in the bed at the time. It was above his head," she said.

Another bullet hit the head rest of a parked car.

Investigators say one of the security guards did have a gun, but did not return fire because a small crowd was outside the bar.

Meanwhile, security told police they believe the woman is from the Hill District area because she frequents the bar.

No arrests have been made.
