Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Shot At Officers In Wilmerding

TURTLE CREEK, Pa. (KDKA) -- A man is suspected of shooting at police officers in Wilmerding.

On Thursday, police say three detectives spotted a man who appeared to be carrying a gun. When they tried to stop him, police say the man opened fire on the detectives.

The man was identified as 20-year-old Matthew Diggs Jr.

They returned fire but no one was hit.

Diggs ran off, but police say he was arrested 40 minutes later in Turtle Creek. Police located Diggs in the 900 block of Sycamore Street.

Police then transported Diggs to Allegheny County Police Headquarters and he is facing charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and firearms violations.
