Security Guard's Father Vows To Push For Homewood Bar's Closure

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Relatives and friends of 24-year-old Deion Nesbitt gathered Tuesday evening outside the Rendezvous Phase III bar in Homewood for an emotional candlelight vigil.

Earlier Tuesday, Nesbitt, who is a bouncer, was shot and killed in the bar on Hamilton Avenue when he got into a scuffle with a man armed with a gun.

Nesbitt was shot three times and died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Another security guard was wounded in the incident.

Kevin Gore, Nesbitt's father, told the gathering, "My son was not a violent person."

Standing only a couple of feet from the bar's owner, Gore said, "I can't sit idle, Sonny. I love you like a brother, but I'm going to push to have your bar shut down."

He added, "I lost my son in there, nothing against you."

Harvey Scott, 26, of Lincoln-Lemington, has been charged with homicide in the case.

A second person who may have also been involved in the shooting is still being sought.

Celeste Nesbitt, the victim's mother, said tearfully her son's last words were "I love my job. I love working here. I love protecting people."

In 2014, a Homewood man was shot and killed in the same bar.
