Search For Suspect Who Stole Car With Baby Still In Car Seat

NORTH SIDE (KDKA) – Police are looking for a man accused of abducting a child on the North Side Sunday night.

Police say he stole a car and a 1-year-old baby was strapped into a car seat in the backseat.

Police say it happened around 8 p.m. when the boy's father stopped at a sandwich shop on Brighton Road and left the boy strapped in his car seat.

The father then saw a man get in the car and take off.

"Well, one of our regular customers came in, bought some cigarettes ... turned around, walked out, I walked out to watch him and as he was walking out, I seen a guy with a brown hoodie on, with fur around it look in the car -- I didn't think anything -- turned around and when he got to the door, he turned around and said somebody stole my car," said store owner Muhammud Arsul. "... he said can I use your phone, so I give him the phone, he says 'my baby's in the car.'"

Police are looking for the man.

"The male we are looking for is a black male, six-four, had on black boots, gray pants, a black coat with white fur around the collar," said Pittsburgh Police Cmdr. Lavonnie Bickerstaff.

Police say they found the car a short while later on Smithton Street. The boy was still in the backseat and unharmed.

The search is still on for the suspect.
