Police Arrest, Charge Man Who Sparked SWAT Situation In Homewood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police say they have located a man who assaulted a woman and sparked a SWAT situation in Homewood.

Police were called to the 7000-block of Mt. Vernon Street around 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say a man inside the home assaulted a woman. The victim was able to run away from the scene. She was taken to UPMC Shadyside where she is in stable condition.

Officers received information that the man involved may have run back inside one of the homes on Mt. Vernon Street. According to the victim, the man was armed with a weapon during the assault.

The SWAT team was called to the scene. After a few hours, SWAT members cleared the house and did not find the man inside.

However, police say they did identify and arrest a suspect Friday morning.

Investigators identify him as 32-year-old Gregory Mitchell of Homewood. He is facing charges of aggravated assault.

The investigation continues.
