Schooley: Proud Of Players For Perservering

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Robert Morris men's hockey team won the AHA Tournament championship on Saturday to claim their first NCAA Tournament berth.

They will play No. 1 Minnesota this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn. Head coach Derek Schooley told Chris Mack that it's a really exciting time for the program, especially considering their early season struggles.

"I'm just really thankful that our players stuck with the process and stuck with everything," Schooley said. "We were struggling on Jan. 1, we were 2-12-2. To end up 19-17-5, and have a second half of 17-5-3 is just phenomenal. I give all the credit to our guys for sticking with things and we're excited about being in the NCAA Tournament."

Schooley said that RMU has played against high-ranked programs in the past, and shouldn't be intimidated by playing the Gophers.

"We've got to tighten a few things up here and there, but we just need to go out and play our game," Schooley said. "We've done a lot of good things, and we validated it with winning the tournament. We need to go and give it our best effort, and work our hardest, and if we do that, we will put ourselves in a position to be successful."
