School Officer Who Thwarted Franklin Regional Stabbing Suspect Retiring

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The in-school police officer who helped take down the Franklin Regional stabbing suspect is retiring.

William Yakshe had worked for the Murrysville Police Department for 20 years.

He took a leave of absence after the attacks, but helped with some of the planning for the students' return to school.

Meantime, two Franklin Regional victims are still in the hospital a month after the attack.

Greg Keener and Connor Warwick are in fair condition at Forbes Hospital.

Connor Warwick's family says he is "progressing well" and able to eat solid food.

The Warwick family released a statement, reading in part: "Connor's spirits are high thanks to the tremendous love and support of his family, his friends, the community at large, and his caregivers at Forbes. We are eternally grateful to the nurses, doctors and staff of Forbes Hospital for taking such excellent care of our son during this incredibly difficult time."

Earlier this week, officials say Keener was moved back to the ICU for monitoring.

Suspect Alex Hribal now faces 21 counts of attempted homicide after his charges were upgraded at the end of April.

Investigators said new evidence led to the upgraded charges, including a note found in Hribal's locker, reading, "I can't wait to see the priceless and helpless looks on the faces of the students of one of the 'best schools in Pennsylvania' realize their precious lives are going to be taken by the only one among them that is a plebeian."

He will be charged as an adult.
