ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) - It was a startling moment for a group of elementary students on the way to school Tuesday morning in Ross Township.

Police say a garbage truck backed into the school bus on Roseland Avenue.

Ross Township police say a garbage truck was picking up a dumpster and drifted backward as the ABC Transit school bus was passing and hit the middle of the bus.

A school bus worker says three windows shattered and there's significant damage to the bus.

About 20 students were on the bus headed to Highcliff Elementary School.

Police say there were some minor injuries that were treated on scene. Then the students got on another bus to get to class.
