Police Probe Schenley Heights Basketball Court Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Authorities are investigating after a man was shot in broad daylight at a Schenley Heights basketball court Tuesday.

The victim was with a group of people on the court when he was shot at Robert Williams Park.

"What we know is that we have a 23-year-old male victim. Our paramedics took him to UPMC Mercy with one gunshot wound to the buttocks area," said Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler.

A neighbor, who did not want to identified, says he believes drug were involved. He's not surprised by activities that go on almost daily in the park.

"There was a drug deal going down; the guy got shot," the neighbor said.

Police are looking for a gunman, but they don't appear to be getting much help.

"We don't have any firm details about a description regarding the shooter, and we found some casings here on the walkway," said Toler.

Meanwhile, the neighbor says he finds casings on the ground all the time.

"They be having a lot of automatic weapons, showing them off, shooting at night," the neighbor said. "I've been finding gun shells all over the ground."

Police say they believe the gunman fired shots from a .45 caliber handgun. They're hoping someone will step forward with information.

The victim is in stable condition.
