Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division looking for Red Kettle campaign volunteers

Salvation Army is helping out those going through food insecurity

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Salvation Army's Western Pennsylvania Division is looking for volunteers as the holiday season approaches.

They need volunteers to ring the bell next to the iconic Red Kettles outside of certain locations this holiday season.

"The Red Kettles are a symbol of hope and compassion, and the programs they support provide essential services to our neighbors in need throughout the year," Major Gregory Hartshorn, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania said. "This is the most critical time of the year for our organization. The sounds of the season will soon fill the air and registering to ring helps make a meaningful, lasting impact that will be felt well beyond the Christmas season."

Each year the money donated to the Red Kettles helps fund feeding programs, rent and utility assistance, seasonal assistance, youth empowerment, and more across the 28 counties in western Pennsylvania.

Those interested in bringing the bell can visit the Salvation Army's Register to Ring website at this link which will show them shifts located in Allegheny County.

Volunteers can also find additional opportunities in the area on the Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division's website right here.

The Red Kettle Campaign kicks off in just a few weeks and as always the Salvation Army will have locations set up throughout the region but will also be accepting virtual donations once again. Those donations can be made by texting "Kettle" to 31333. People who make donations virtually are asked to provide their ZIP code in order to ensure the donation helps their community.
