6-Vehicle Accident Closes Route 65 In Sewickley

SEWICKLEY (KDKA) – A major accident on Route 65 had a significant impact on traffic this morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the six-vehicle accident happened near the intersection with Osborne Lane in Glen Osbourne just before 8 a.m.

The road was shut down for more than an hour. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane have since reopened to traffic.

People involved in the crash say the whole thing happened in the blink of an eye.

"The vehicle at fault was traveling northbound and made a merge from the left lane to right lane, but made contact with a vehicle that was pushed into the southbound lanes," Sewickley Police Officer Dave Yurkovac said.

A young woman's car was hit by a box truck, which then lost control and hit a light pole.

The impact to the young woman's car was so fierce that the engine was ejected.

She had to be cut out of the vehicle and was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital. Her condition is unknown, but police say she was able to communicate.

No other information has been released at this time.
