Route 51 Crash Leaves 2 Dead In Jefferson Hills

JEFFERSON HILLS (KDKA) – Two people are dead following a crash on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills Monday morning.

According to police, the accident happened on Route 51, near the Ridge Road exit ramp around 7:09 a.m.

Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected and one was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was flown to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Police believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control. The vehicle hit a curb, overturned and hit a jersey barrier.

Names of the victims have not been released.

The northbound lanes were still closed as of 9 a.m. Officials are asking motorists to avoid the area, if at all possible. It is unclear when it may reopen.
