TARENTUM, Pa. (KDKA) - A deadly crash involving a car and a fire truck already responding to an earlier crash shut down Route 28 northbound for hours.

Dispatchers confirmed a call for a fatal crash came in around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

A Summit Hose Volunteer Fire Company truck was responding to one crash when another vehicle crashed into it, dispatchers said.

It's unknown if either accident was related to weather, but it comes in the middle of a winter storm blanketing the area in ice and snow. Heavy snowfall came down as a crash reconstruction team was on the scene and the closed lanes quickly got covered with snow.

State police are investigating but have not released any new information.

All lanes were closed on 28 northbound between Exit 13 and 17 but have since reopened.

KDKA has a crew heading to the scene and will update this story.
