Rostraver Police Chase Ends In Crash; Suspect Had Girl, 3, In Car

ROSTRAVER (KDKA) - Police are investigating, after a traffic stop turned into a chase and crash in Westmoreland County.

According to police, a trooper stopped Adam Rattay, 25, of Rostraver, for speeding on Interstate 70, near Smithton.

Rattay allegedly took off and police chased after him.

Troopers say Rattay ran several stop signs and narrowly missed two vehicles.

That's when one of the troopers chasing him noticed something.

"The trooper noticed a small child in the backseat lift its head up, immediately the trooper got on the PA system and tried to have the driver stop immediately. The vehicle sped up even faster hit a hillside and rolled over onto its roof," Trooper Robert Broadwater said.

Rattay crashed the car over an embankment on Indian Hills Road in Rostraver.

Rattay had a 3-year-old girl in the car with him, who was taken to the hospital as a precaution, she was in a car seat during the crash.

Rattay suffered serious injuries to his face and remains hospitalized.

He is facing several charges.
