Police Respond To Man Held Up In Apartment Along Route 19

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police and fire crews responded to a man held up in a second-floor apartment in the Chateau Perry Apartments along Route 19.

Police said a man barricaded himself in his apartment.

His girlfriend called the police saying he was acting erratically after taking synthetic drugs.

The North Hills Special Response Team got inside the apartment and sent a robot in to make sure it was safe.

"We had information that he had weapons, which is part of why we took such caution with him," Brian Kohlhepp of the Ross Township Police Department said. "So we were able to take one, two firearms for safekeeping at this time until we find out the disposition of him."

No injuries were reported and the building was mostly evacuated.

The suspect is undergoing a psychological evaluation.
