Rookie Spotlight: Jared Goff Is Set To Lead The Rams In Los Angeles Once Again

By Danny Cox

For a team that has moved back to Los Angeles looking for yet another fresh start, the Rams truly need something to kick off their new home in the right way. It is all going to center around the quarterback position and the player that's going to lead them into the future. The recent release of Nick Foles confirms that it won't be him, but now it's going to be a training camp battle between veteran Case Keenum and Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick.

In high school, Goff helped win a lot of games and throw for a lot of yards as his talent was seen from very early on. A number of colleges began looking at him and he ended up choosing the University of California, where he started all 12 games for the Golden Bears in 2013.

He was the first true freshman quarterback in Cal history to start the season opener, and he didn't stop there.

During his sophomore campaign, he again started every single game and threw for close to 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns on the season with a 62 percent completion rate. He threw for seven touchdowns in a September 2014 game against the Colorado Buffaloes and a school-record 527 yards against Washington State in October.

It wasn't until his junior season in 2015 that he led the Golden Bears to a 7-5 season, which was the first winning record for the school since 2011. That also happened to be the season he broke his own passing yards record in a single season with 4,714. That's not even mentioning the 43 passing touchdowns he racked up as well.

After that, Goff decided to forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft where the newly relocated Rams chose him with the No. 1 overall pick this year.

The Los Angeles Rams have now released their first depth chart leading into training camp, and it does not have Jared Goff as the No. 1 quarterback. Keenum currently has that distinction, but training camp and the preseason will offer up a lot of looks at both signal-callers, and that could easily change before the regular season begins.

It's very possible that Jared Goff will begin his rookie season on the bench for the LA Rams, but don't expect him to stay there long.
