Ron Cook Says To Expect McCutchen To Land On 15-Day Disabled List

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Ron Cook of the Cook and Poni show joined Starkey and Mueller this afternoon as he is reporting the Pirates will place reining NL MVP Andrew McCutchen on the 15-day DL with an oblique injury that will cost him "significant time."

"I think we all kind of knew that it could be bad because let's face it, these oblique side muscles, whatever you want to say, they're so important to a hitter or a pitcher because of the torque involved with swinging the bat," Ron said. "If you can't swing the bat, you can't hit, even an MVP. I'm being told it's not a good injury, and it's going to be significant time."

Ron also took a shot at predicting what the Pirates options will be if McCutchen is to miss a significant period of time.

"I guess the short-term solution is you bring Marte back as long as he's healthy," Cook said. "He's got to play center field for you now, right? There's nobody else on the roster that can play really center field -- maybe you try to find somebody for left field."

Click the audio link below as Cook talks more about other injury issues the Pirates may be dealing with and if the Pirates think this injury could be related to the 95 mile per hour fastball he took from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
