Riverhounds Owner Names New Coach

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The owner of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced Sunday that they had found a new head coach for the team.

In a release, team owner Tuffy Shallenberger named Dave Brandt the new coach Sunday. Brandt is the winningest active coach in Division I men's soccer and he has been named Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) four times.

Brandt has been coaching for 19 years and has spent the past 7 years at the United States Naval Academy. He previously coached at Messiah College in his hometown of Mechanicsburg, Pa., for more than a decade.

The Riverhounds' former head coach Mark Steffens was released Saturday, the same day as the team's first win of the season. The Riverhounds are currently 1-4-3 and will next play the Red Bulls II on May 28 in New York.
