Republican VP Nominee Mike Pence Compares Trump/Pence To Steelers At Pittsburgh Rally

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The number two guy on the Donald Trump ticket was in Pittsburgh Tuesday night to address supporters.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence spoke at the Heinz History Center.

At one point, he called himself a "B-list" Republican celebrity, which brought about a few chuckles.

But when he said "Hillary Clinton must never be elected," that brought about loud cheers.

The crowd to hear the Indiana governor was only about 200 people, but they were enthusiastic.

Supporters cheered when he compared what he feels is unfair media coverage of the Trump/Pence campaign to the Steelers playing against the odds.

"It's almost as though the Steelers had to play an entire season of away games in front of hostile crowds with hometown refs," said Governor Pence. "But they'd still win wouldn't they?" to which the crowd shouted back yes.

While he did not address Donald Trump's apparent joke about Second Amendment supporters taking matters into their own hands when it comes to Hillary Clinton appointing liberal Supreme Court Justices, he did say this: "When Donald Trump does his talking, he doesn't go tip-toeing around those thousands of rules of political correctness. He says it like it is."

The audience clearly connected with Pence's comments on the economy. At one point he declared in a list of agenda items: "End the war on coal and get this nation's economy moving again."

David Podurgiel from Canonsburg said, "I worked in the coal industry for 25 years now. The tow boat on the river and transportation part. Our infrastructure on our rivers needs help, too. So that's one of the big messages I want to hear."

Near the end of his speech, Governor Pence urged people to convince their neighbors of the importance of voting for Donald Trump.

His visit comes a week after presidential nominee Donald Trump visited Harrisburg.

Congressman Keith Rothfus and others from the GOP were also at the rally.

"Mike brings a lot of policy and experience he's been knee deep and waist deep in policy for a very long time. He knows the details he's governor of Indiana and presided over the biggest tax cut in Indiana history. They now have a $2 billion surplus, Rothfus said prior to the rally.
