Report: Should Polanco Be The Next Big Prospect Called Up?
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - A top-rated prospect at the AAA level playing Right Field with a .420 batting average, 4 home runs, 22 RBI's and four stolen bases through just 20 games.
Sound like something the Pirates could use?
Well that's exactly what they have in Gregory Polanco, who is currently tearing it up for the Indianapolis Indians.
It's no secret at this point that the Pirates are wary of starting Polanco's major league clock by calling him up too early this year, but that hasn't stopped their top prospect from doing everything in his power to show them he's absolutely ready.
Jim Callis of MLB.com recently wrote that there is no minor league player in all of baseball right now more deserving of a call-up than Polanco.
Even Clint Hurdle, while meeting with the media after Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Reds, alluded to the fact that there is a player, "one in particular," at the AAA level that they're keeping an eye on and whether a promotion could come soon for him.

It doesn't take some great knowledge of the Pirates minor league system to know that Hurdle was talking about Polanco when he mention the "one in particular" that they're keeping their eye on.
In fact, you don't have to look any further than the position Polanco is playing to realize he's been groomed to take over the right field job for the big league team. After almost exclusively playing Center Field during the 2013 season, Polanco has now transitioned to Right Field, one of the biggest areas of need the team has.
With the Pirates finding themselves five games under .500 at 9-14 and already seven-and-a-half games back in the division, the question that should be asked now isn't when will Polanco get called up, it's why isn't he being called up now when it's obvious that he's ready, and could be of use to the team.
