Report: Ref In Charge Of Game Clock During Steelers-Chargers Game Suspended

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The NFL is reportedly taking action against a referee who was in charge of the game clock during Monday night's Pittsburgh Steelers-San Diego Chargers game.

Rob Vernatchi, the ref in charge of making sure the clock was correct, has reportedly been suspended one game for the 18-second run-off at the end of the match-up in San Diego.

The Steelers won on the last play of the game.

The Chargers kicked a field goal with 2:56, and the Steelers got the ball with 2:38 left after a touchback.

Although the error was made by the clock operator, it's the side judge's responsibility to make sure the clock is correct.

The NFL admitted to the mistake on Tuesday, and said all game officials will be reviewed per the standard procedure for reviewing every play of every game.

Vernatchi was suspended with pay. He is also expected to file a grievance with the league.
