Report: Red Sox Ask Pirates About Gerrit Cole

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Unlikely to happen? Certainly. Interesting nonetheless? Absolutely.

According to Michael Silverman of The Boston Herald, the Red Sox have been calling around about the availability of some elite starters and a call was made to the Pirates about Gerrit Cole.

Along with Cole, the Red Sox have asked about other top of the rotation pitchers like the Marlins Jose Fernandez, so this is likely nothing more than a feeling out process.

According to Silverman, the responses the Red Sox are getting back are requests for short stop Xander Bogaerts, one of the best players in all of baseball.

The 23-year-old Bogaerts is hitting .347 with 9 home runs, 46 RBI and 10 stolen bases this year, meaning any trade request involving him is unlikely to head anywhere.

So while it's interesting to thing about what a blockbuster trade this would be, it seems like nothing is likely to happen.
