Steelers Sign RB Ben Tate

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers are being proactive in the event their star running back cannot play this weekend.

Le'Veon Bell suffered a hyperextended knee injury during Week 17's 27-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

However, it is still unclear if he will be available for Saturday's playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.

If Bell cannot go, the Steelers would be left pretty thin at the running back position.

As a result, they bought an insurance policy on Tuesday.

According to the team's Twitter account, the Steelers signed running back Ben Tate this afternoon.

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported that Tate was expected to visit the Steelers today and could sign if it went well.

Tate started this season with the Cleveland Browns, before being cut and then picked up by the Minnesota Vikings.

In 11 games between the two clubs this season, Tate rushed for 371 yards and four touchdowns.

Tate was waived by the Vikings on Dec. 23.

The Steelers will host the Ravens Saturday night at 8:15 p.m.
