Pirates Acquire Phillies Reliever Antonio Bastardo

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - According to CBSSPORTS.com baseball writer Jon Heyman, the Pirates and Phillies have a deal in place for the Pirates to acquire left-handed reliever Antonio Bastardo.

The Pirates tried to acquire Bastardo during the 2013 season in which he went 5-7 with a 3.94 appearing in 67 games out of the Phillies bullpen.

The 29-year-old Bastardo recorded 81 strikeouts in 64 innings of work and pitches about as well against lefties as he does righties as you can see here.

Bastardo's strikeouts tied him for 10th among National League relievers and fourth among National League left-handed relievers.

Bastardo did not allow a run in 12 of his final 13 appearances in 2014 while holding the opposition to juts three hits in 37 at bats.

In his career, Bastardo has posted a career record of 20-18 with 11 saves, a 3.72 ERA (259.0 IP/107ER) and 324 strikeouts in 275 games.

Heyman is also reporting the return for the Phillies is Pirates minor league pitcher Joely Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has yet to pitch above AA in the Pirates organization reaching that level last year going 6-11 with a 4.84 ERA in 30 appearances including 21 starts.
