Report: Pirates Pitcher Brandon Cumpton To See Dr. James Andrews

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - He's a doctor no pitcher ever wants to go see, but Pirates starter Brandon Cumpton has an appointment with renowned elbow specialist Dr. James Andrews.

According to Michael Hurcomb of CBSSports.com, Cumpton felt an issue in his throwing arm during batting practice last week.

While he wasn't expected to make the Pirates rotation out of spring training, Cumpton was called upon by the team the last two years to help fill the void when other starters went down.

In 2013, Cumpton went 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA while making five starts for the big league team.

In 2014, the right-handed starter appeared in 16 games, starting 10 and putting up an ERA of 4.89 while going 3-4.
