Report: Pirates Could Lose Pitching Guru Jim Benedict

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Along with pitching coach Ray Searage, Special Assistant to the General Manager Jim Benedict have made up a team of pitching whisperers who have fixed pitcher after pitcher after they've come to the Pirates.

That duo though could be coming to an end according to ESPN baseball writer Jerry Crasnick.

While Searage is the one out in the public eye, Benedict is credited behind-the-scenes as the coach behind all of the Pirates reclamation projects ranging from Francisco Liriano to this years big surprise in J.A. Happ.

Back in 2014, Starkey and Mueller interviewed Benedict and learned the secrets to success when it comes to fixing pitchers. You can hear that interview here.
