Report: Pirates Acquire Reliever John Axford From Cleveland Indians

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - According to FOX Sports MLB Reporter Ken Rosenthal, the Pirates have acquired Cleveland Indians Right-Handed Reliever John Axford.

On the year, Axford has an ERA of 3.92 in 43.2 innings pitched, striking out 51 while walking 30.

Axford was working as the Indians closer at one point this year before being removed from that role.

According to reports, this was a straight waiver claim, meaning the Pirates will only take on the remaining $1.1 million of Axford's salary this year and will not have to give up a player in exchange.

In order to make room for Axford on the 25-man roster, the Pirates have place reliever Stolmy Pimentel on the disabled list with a mild right ankle spraing. To make room for Axford on the 40-man roster, the Pirates have designated for assignment Triple-A first baseman Matt Hague.
