Report: Pierre McGuire, Jim Rutherford Candidates For Pens' GM Position

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Penguins are playing it pretty close to the vest when it comes to their search for former General Manager Ray Shero's replacement, but that hasn't stopped some names from leaking out.

We've known for a while now that among the names for the opening is NBC Sports commentator Pierre McGuire. Now, as Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer, the latest name added to the list is Carolina Hurricanes President Jim Rutherford.

Alexander reached out to Rutherford to confirm this news, but was told, "I'm not going to comment. I'm under contract with the Hurricanes, so that's the extent of it."

Despite giving up his general manager duties with the Hurricanes, Rutherford has two years left on his contract as team president.

Meanwhile, Pens Head Coach Dan Bylsma is still with the team. However, it's not unreasonable to believe that whoever the new general manager is, they will want their own head coach and will cut Bylsma loose.

One name that could be a fit for that job is former Penguin Rick Tocchet.

Tocchet talked with "The Cook and Poni Show" about the Pens opening, calling it "a job that people want."

Stay tuned to 93-7 The FAN for the latest news on the Pens search for their next General Manager.
