Teenager Shot In The Head In Allegheny Township

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A teenage boy was rushed to the hospital after emergency officials say he was shot in the head late Friday afternoon in Westmoreland County.

According the emergency dispatchers, the 15-year-old victim was taken by a medical helicopter to a local hospital.

It happened around 5:20 p.m. along Melwood Road in Allegheny Township.

A part of the road had to be shut down near Pounds Turkey Farm so the helicopter could land, but it has since been reopened.

There's no word on the victim's condition or the circumstances under which he was shot.

However, initial reports from Westmoreland County emergency dispatchers indicate the incident may have been "accidental."
