Report: Pens One Of 10 Potential Spots Mike Babcock Could Land

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Even before the Penguins hired Mike Johnston to be their next head coach following Dan Bylsma, there was speculation that they would still pursue Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock once he became available.

It was announced on Friday that Babcock was given the OK to talk with other teams about his coaching future.

Now, CBSSports.com Hockey Writer Chris Peters has the teams vying for Babcock's services narrowed down to 10 possible destinations.

According to Peters, the Penguins are on the list of teams that could land Babcock.  Despite previously saying they were going to keep current head coach Mike Johnston, Peters calls the availability of Babcock a "real game-changer."

Other potential destinations for Babcock according to Peters are his current organization in Detroit as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens.
